Discovery Institute Teaching Scholar Program

JOIN US as a participant in the Teaching Scholars Program. If you are a student at the College of Staten Island or other CUNY school and meet the following criteria:

•  Full time student (at least 12 credits/term) with at least a 3.00 GPA
( 9 credits for Graduate Level student)

•  Mature, highly responsible, energetic, and of good character

•  Prepared to work as a "Teacher assistant" in a neighborhood elementary, intermediate, or secondary school

This program can be for you. Your participation will earn $10 per hour for a minimum of 6 hours up to a maximum of 15 hours of work per week.

Each year, through its Teaching Scholar Program, the Discovery Institute offers qualified CSI students the opportunity to participate in hands-on teaching activities, implementing discovery based learning techniques. The experiences can begin with assisting students with one-on-one and small group tutorial services primarily in core academic areas and computer skills. Additional experiences include assisting teachers in their classes, laboratory activities and mentoring students with their school projects. You can also be involved in classroom remedial or enrichment activities.

You will have a chance to make a difference by helping needy students catch up and keep up. You will also be increasing the learning efficiency in the classroom by helping your cooperating teacher reach more students.
