Sample Lesson Plans and Curricula

Over the years, the Discovery Institute has integrated its vision of teachers' professional development and empowerment by involving teachers in developing their own discovery lessons and curricula. We are extremely proud of what our teams of teachers have accomplished through collaborating with one another and becoming active within their professional spheres. Working together, they develop a motivational energy that powerfully influences their continued commitment to the profession, their school environments and the lives of their students.

Of primary value to the Institute and its work is our teachers' engagement in the discovery process, which results in collections of lesson plans such as those we have compiled here. However, we must consistently resist the temptation to view such examples of what our teachers achieve as the ends towards which we aim.

Our focus, rather, is on the process of teachers' self-development, which is continuous, constant and unlimited; such products as this collection are milestones in a progression, and illustrations of the commitment and creativity that result from our work. This collection marks the beginning of our effort to illuminate the process through which our teachers create such exemplary lessons and by which their professional lives are changed. We invite your comments and suggestions as we plan new ways to share our vision.
